As I’m standing under the pouring rain, with our guide missing and no way of getting back to the resort, saying that this turn of events is an unexpected situation is a severe understatement considering how the day started.

The only good thing in this scenario is that Ayesha and I are together. I honestly don’t know how I’d cope if we got separated or worse, only Ayesha went missing.

Checking Ayesha’s foot that slipped, I’m relieved that nothing is broken and only looks like a minor sprain. Although putting pressure on it wouldn’t be advisable either.

“Well, it looks like it’s just a minor sprain. In just a few days, your foot will be good as new as long as you don’t apply force on it,” I advise her, and Ayesha gives out a relieved sigh.

Since I know that we couldn’t stay out in the rain, I pick Ayesha up to find some shelter. The woman in my arms lets out a slight squeak in surprise as she wraps her arms around my neck to steady herself.

“What are you doing?” she asks.

“Carrying you,” I reply, stating the obvious. “We need to get out of the rain.”

“I can walk. You don’t have to carry me,” she replies in protest.

“Your foot is sprained. If you try to exert force on it, it might just get worse. Besides, you’re not heavy,” I explain.

“Well, it’s still embarrassing,” she says, her brown eyes averting their gaze.

I let out a slight huff of frustration. As much as I want to ignore her discomfort, I know that it wouldn’t be a good idea to do so since she’d just squirm all the way. Deciding to compromise, I offer to carry her on my back instead.

“That’d be better,” she agrees and jumps out of my arms, landing on her better foot.

With Ayesha settled on my back, we begin our search for temporary shelter. After a few minutes, we find a cave not far from where we landed. Entering the cave, I carefully place Ayesha on the floor.

“I’m sorry,” Ayesha murmurs. “This is my fault.”

I sit in front of her as I hold her arms, “Ayesha, don’t blame yourself. Accidents happen all the time.”

“Still, you wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for me,” she answers, nearly in tears.

“Hey, I’m an experienced climber and I’ve also attended a few survival training sessions in the wild so the fact that I am here is a good thing. It increases the chance that you and I could go back to the resort.”

Ayesha nods at that and offers me a small smile. With Ayesha in better spirits, I inspect the cave. Quickly noticing some wooden sticks and logs that we could use to build a fire inside, I thank god for small mercies.

Rummaging our bags for supplies that we could use, I find a small pocket knife, flashlights, biscuits, and bottles of water. Unfortunately, nothing that could help to create fire.

Back to basics, it is.

“It looks like we’d only be having biscuits and water for dinner.
